Former Tempe Union student said security guard charged with voyeurism was ‘very peculiar’

A former Tempe Union High School District student said trust was broken after the assistant coach and security guard was charged with voyeurism. He was supposed to be protecting us, and then these charges come out, said the student, who wanted to remain anonymous. 28-year-old Antony Cruz, a former campus security guard at Corona Del Sol High School and assistant wrestling coach in the district, is now facing more than 100 counts of voyeurism after police said he downloaded footage of girls changing in a dance room at the high school.

The former student agreed to speak with Arizona’s Family exclusively about their time around Cruz. He did his job. He wouldn’t become buddy buddy with kids. He didn’t talk to kids; he was quiet. That’s why it’s concerning because you don’t expect these charges to come out at all, said the former student. As a security guard, Cruz had access to cameras on campus.

I did always find him very peculiar, like something was just off. He didn’t do anything to show that he was off or weird, but considering he had videos of girls changing, it’s disgusting to think about what he could have been thinking about, said the former student. The student also expressed concerns about the way they feel the district hires security guards.

They hire an interesting group of people. I feel like they don’t care who they hire and they have low standards for security guards.
